Each Hostess the label leather or suede piece is handcrafted in Indonesia by skilled artisans, made to move through your life beautifully — and with the right care, to last for years. This guide brings together everything you need to keep your leather and suede pieces looking their best.
Full-Grain Leather
Full-grain leather is the highest quality grade of leather, retaining the natural grain of the hide. It develops a rich patina over time, becoming more characterful with wear.
Cleaning
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove everyday dust and light marks. For more stubborn marks, use a slightly damp cloth and allow the leather to dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, solvents, or abrasive materials.
Conditioning
Condition your leather piece two to three times a year with a quality leather conditioner to maintain its suppleness and prevent drying or cracking. Apply sparingly with a soft cloth and buff gently in circular motions.
Water & Moisture
If your piece becomes wet, blot gently with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry naturally. Do not apply heat to speed drying. Once dry, condition the leather to restore its moisture balance.
Suede
Premium suede has a soft, velvety nap that gives each piece its distinctive texture. It requires a little more attention than smooth leather but rewards care with enduring beauty.
Cleaning
Dry clean only. For light surface dust, use a suede brush in gentle, short strokes in one direction to lift the nap. Avoid water contact where possible, as moisture can stain or mark suede. If your piece does get wet, blot immediately with a clean dry cloth and allow it to dry naturally before brushing the nap back into place.
Protecting Your Suede
Before first use, apply a suede protector spray to create a barrier against moisture and light marks. Reapply seasonally for ongoing protection.
Storage
Each Hostess the label piece arrives with a dust bag. When not in use, store your piece inside its dust bag to protect it from dust, light, and scratches. Keep leather and suede in a cool, dry place with good airflow — avoid plastic bags or airtight containers, which can trap moisture and cause damage over time.
Stuff structured pieces lightly with tissue paper to help them retain their shape during storage.
