For Hostess the label founder Nicky Coventry, fashion was never simply a subject she chose at school. It was an instinct. While others moved away from style and design in Years 11 and 12, Nicky leaned further in—sketching, creating, and waiting for the school fashion parade, the one moment each year when she could step onto the catwalk in something she had made herself. It was more than a dress or a look. It was the feeling of bringing an idea to life, then having the confidence to wear it.
That instinct stayed with her.
For 21 years, Nicky travelled the world as an international flight attendant with Qantas. Life was lived between departure gates and hotel lobbies, time zones and dinner reservations, a suitcase always nearby. Along the way, she learned how much a well-considered wardrobe can do. The right piece can make you feel polished after a long flight, effortless at a rooftop dinner, and entirely yourself wherever the day—or night—takes you.
But the wardrobe Nicky was looking for did not quite exist. She wanted pieces with presence, designed to move from one moment to the next without asking a woman to change who she was. Clothes that could travel beautifully, work hard, and still make getting dressed feel like a pleasure.
Then life changed. After losing her beloved father, Nicky was reminded that the dreams we postpone can become the ones we regret. She decided it was time to build the brand she had carried with her for years.
Hostess the label was born from that decision. Its name honours the career that shaped her and the spirit of welcome, confidence, and care that has always defined her work. It is a label for women who move through the world with intention—women who arrive prepared, considered, and ready for whatever comes next.
Today, Nicky balances her role as a Cabin Manager at Virgin Australia with designing Hostess the label. Every collection is informed by a life spent in motion: the quiet confidence of a perfectly packed suitcase, the ease of a piece that works from airport lounge to dinner table, and the joy of feeling wonderful in your own skin.
